Packing, Organizing, Decluttering and Moving

Things have been super quiet on my blog the past few months because I have been so super busy that blogging has had to take a back burner.

In December I spent every spare moment packing, organizing and sorting for moving. This wasn’t a normal move however. There have been several hard decisions we have prayed over lately and one of them was about our home. We were no longer able to afford our rent and had to come up with a plan. So… we moved into my in-laws house just a couple days after Christmas. This was not an easy decision but the one that we had the most peace about. This move meant that I had to pack for staying with them for a few months, pack for storage and due to the fact that space is limited, I had to make tough decisions about what I could get rid of. The benefit of this kind of move is that one is forced to declutter and downsize a lot. I found myself asking questions like, “Will I need this during the next few months?” or “Is this worth paying $90 a month to store?” Every box that was packed got a label of the exact contents that were put inside it. I only had one box marked “Miscellaneous” which was the box that was packed at the very end with little odds and ends that I found.

This past week, it was time to organize the storage so that we could finish getting some items in it and so that we could find things we might need in the next few months.

Opening up the door to see how it had been filled was a tad bit overwhelming. When we started filling it up we were careful about organization… towards the end we were just throwing it all in.

Daddy Reg and I spent a few hours pulling the furniture out and reorganizing all the boxes and making it so that we had one side of shelves that we could access as we need to.

Anyway that has been what I have been doing lately.

  1. Wow! I'll be praying for you as you make this adjustment! We've done it a few times. Once into Mike's parents house (They worked out of town so it worked quite well), once into my parents house and once into a travel trailer on 6 acres my parents had that no one lived on. It can be fun, but also hard. Make sure you all have some ground rules first (small things like your bedtime routine with your children can cause strange uproars) and let them (the grandparents) have time alone in their house and make sure you (Your family) gets time alone also!

  2. Good to read up on you. I hate moving but it's always a great time for a yard sale esp when you realize just how much stuff accumulates. LOL Hope all goes well.

  5. Dearest Jamie,

I think of you guys regularly.
Forgive me for not having called - Life. It seems to fill up every crack these days! I know you know.

I'll be continuing to pray for you all too. We know firsthand the privilege, blessing, and strain of living with the folks, but it really IS a privilege, and probably something you (your children especially) will talk about with fondness for the rest of your lives:-)

    I love ya,
    Analene

  7. Thanks everyone. I appreciate all the prayers and encouragement. My in-laws are amazing people and I am truly blessed to have them as family.
Analene, you are so right it is a privilege to have this time with them. Thank you for reminding me. And I am so aware of how life seems to fill up every moment. I am hoping to be more consistent posting now that we are settled and a routine is starting to take shape.
